Product Description

Irish Moss Tincture

Wild Crafted Canada

Also Known As -Chondrus crispus

Overview - Irish Moss, known as Carrageen, is a perennial red algae, belonging to the Gigartinaceae family. The thallus is usually purplish-brown when fresh and yellow and translucent after drying. Irish Moss is hand harvested and allowed to sun-dry and bleach in an open-air field until it is dry.

Medicinal Uses - Irish Moss nourishes the glandular system, kidneys, lungs, and purifies the body's cells and strengthens the thyroid gland. It can help alleviate both duodenal and peptic ulcers without any negative effects upon the colon and helps to reduce gastric secretions. Some people apply carrageenan directly to the skin for discomfort around the anus.

Carrageenan contains chemicals that may decrease stomach and intestinal secretions. Large amounts of carrageenan seem to pull water into the intestine, and this may explain why it is tried as a laxative. Carrageenan also might decrease pain and swelling (inflammation).

Other Uses – Irish Moss is used used to add texture and stability to ice cream, whipped cream, puddings, soups and salad dressings. Meaning it is used as a binder, thickening agent, and as a stabilizer in medications, foods, and toothpaste. Carrageenan is also an ingredient in weight loss products.

Parts Used - Flowers, leaves, seeds, stem – The flower, leaf, seed and stem are all used from the plant.

Precautions - Because Irish Moss has some blood thinning properties, people taking anti-coagulating medications should avoid using it.

Suggested: Use 6-10 drops in juice or water, under the tongue or as desired. May be taken 2 times daily. Shake well and store in a cool dark place. Keep out of reach of children.
