Burdock Root Herbal Tincture

For many years Burdock root has been used to heal many conditions, among them measles, acne, ulcers, tonsillitis, the aches and pains of arthritis, rheumatism, sciatica and swollen joints. But these days, the most promising use is in oncology. Burdock Root is nature's best "blood purifier" that helps to rid the body of deleterious toxins and clear congestion from the circulatory, lymphatic, respiratory and urinary systems. In one study Burdock Root was found to protect the liver cells from the damage of taking acetaminophen. It is believed to stimulate the gallbladder and encourage liver cells to regenerate. Burdock Root tinctures are a natural remedy rich in such elements as calcium, potassium, iron, copper, chromium, inulin, resin flavonoids, mucilage, chlorogenic acid, lactone and a series of vitamins. The Chinese used it as an herbal aphrodisiac, and it has been found to be  effective for fertility and impotence. It was also used to balance hormone levels that attribute to PMS, fibroids, endometriosis by improving the livers ability to metabolize hormones such as estrogen and thereby improve the symptoms associated with this type of imbalance. Burdock root extracts alleviate excess water weight and help to keep the skin clear and healthy and, as matter of fact, it is believed to help keep the entire body clear and healthy! Burdock is rich in phytosterols and essential fatty acids that help to maintain a healthy scalp and promote hair growth. Burdock is sometimes used by some burn care workers for pain management and to speed healing time in natural burn treatments.

Burdock is said to cleanse and eliminate long-term impurities from the blood very rapidly through its action on both the liver and kidneys. It is thought to be useful in situations involving exposure to environmental toxins such as cigarette smoke or air pollution, heavy metals such as mercury, lead or arsenic in the blood. Burdock Root is thought to help heal a damaged liver and protect it from further damage. It is also thought to promote the flow and release of bile, which not only helps to cleanse the liver, but it also aids the  digestive process and help many stomach conditions, such as indigestion, stomach pains, constipation, diarrhea and digestive weakness.

As a diaphoretic and diuretic, Burdock promotes sweating, which helps to release toxins through the skin and also promotes increased urine, further eliminating toxins via the kidneys and bladder. The increased flow of urine relieves both the kidney and lymphatic system and has many beneficial effects. It rids the body of excess water weight, relieves swelling around joints and alleviates edema. It helps to clear the blood of harmful acids due to calcification deposits, and overburdened blood is a major factor behind arthritis, fevers, infections and  skin diseases. This makes it very useful for inflammatory conditions, such as rheumatism, osteoarthritis, scrofula and swellings of the neck and throat. Burdock Root helps to flush uric acid from the system, thereby shortening a gout attack. Burdock also contains the carbohydrate inulin, which is believed to correct irregularities of the immune system and reduce inflammation and pain and is commonly used in the treatment of gout.

High amounts of inulin and mucilage in Burdock root give splendid soothing effects on the gastro-intestinal tract. And inulin itself provides a helpful sugar for diabetics and hypoglycemics. It is said to lower blood sugar levels and  benefit both the liver and pancreas. Burdock also appears to increase carbohydrate tolerance and prevents hyperglycemia, another possible benefits for diabetics.

Burdock Root is used in oncology today for its cancer curing properties, particularly in Russia and India. Many herbalists say that the root can stop cancer cells from mastasizing. And Japanese researchers have isolated a substance in Burdock Root, named the "B-factor," that  is said to reduce cell mutation. There is also a dietary fiber in Burdock seed, called "arctin," that may slow or stop the growth of malignant disease in the breast in its early stages and may also have similar benefits against colon and pancreatic malignancies.

One of the most enduring uses of Burdock Root is to treat colds and flu, along with other respiratory conditions. Burdock Root was used by ancient Chinese and Ayurvedic healers to fight infection and ward off colds and influenza. Used in this capacity, Burdock Root tinctures can boost the immune system and provide the body the necessary nutrients to fight off infections. Additionally, Burdock Root has been used to treat HIV and AIDS.  The herb is a powerful immune booster that may help your body fight off the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Burdock Root may also help cleanse the bloodstream and lymphatic system of toxins that can speed the progress of AIDS.

One of the active components of Burdock Root is sesquiterpene lactones, which are active plant chemicals found to have antibacterial and antifungal properties. The antioxidants in Burdock Root inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi and this prevents the infection penetration, which is especially useful in treating the skin. It is a helpful herbal remedy for treating athlete's foot, dandruff and diaper rash, Streptococcus bacteria and many disease-causing fungi. Burdock is thought to kill ringworm. It can help significantly to relieve boils, skin ulcers, carbuncles, canker sores, eczema, psoriasis, skin cancers, bug bites, sores, poison oak, poison ivy, swellings, leprosy, wounds and hemorrhoids.

It is also thought to be helpful in other diseases caused by toxicity in the blood, including syphilis and gonorrhea.

Burdock is often used by some burn units for pain management and to speed healing time in natural burn treatments. It is believed to ease dressing changes and appears to impede bacterial growth on the wound site and it provides a great moisture barrier.
