Product Description

Arnica Flowers (Whole, Organically Grown) - 1 ounce package

Also Known As - Arnica montana,  more common names for Arnica are Mountain daisy, Leopard’s bane and Mountain tobacco.

Origin - USA/We pick our Arnica Flowers near the Canadian Border in Washington State.

Overview -  Arnica montana is the Latin name for a perennial that grows 1 to 2 feet tall with bright, yellow daisy-like flowers that appear in July and August. It is found on the moist, grassy upland meadows in the hills and mountains of northern and central Europe and Siberia. It is also found sparsely in the northwestern United States, but we grow our own plants right here on our farmstead!

Medicinal Uses -  The flowers of this plant have been prepared in several ways in order to promote the restoration of overworked muscles and to support the relaxation of muscles. Tinctures, Homeopathic dilutions, creams, oils, salves and gels can all be found. It is not recommended to use this plant internally without the help of a qualified practitioner. Topical applications have been used to effectively help carry off damaged material in the tissues from trauma or impact.

Active Constituents - Sesquiterpene lactones (helanalin, dihydrohelanalin), arnicin, flavonoids, volatile oil, mucilage and polysaccharides, and tannins.

Parts Used - Fresh or dried flowers. The root is also used in European herbal preparations.

Preparations - Soothes temporary muscle and nerve discomfort; bruises; minor muscle pain; joint discomfort.Used as an infusion (approximately 1 teaspoon dried herb in 1/2 cup water), tincture (approximately 1 part herb to 10 parts alcohol), oil (1 part dried herb in 5 parts plant oil), or mouth rinse (1 part tincture in 10 parts water), or ointment (1 part arnica oil to 4 or 5 parts base). Hot Compress: Soak a clean linen or cotton cloth in a hot infusion and apply it to the affected area as hot as can be tolerated. Cover with a folded blanket or towel to maintain heat.

Precautions - FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY. NOT FOR INTERNAL USE. NOT TO BE USED ON OPEN WOUNDS OR BROKEN SKIN.  Do not swallow any form of arnica except homeopathics. Repeated application to the skin can cause irritation. Do not apply to broken skin. Not recommended while pregnant or nursing.
